DISTRIBUTED CREATIVITY (Book Chapter)

Distributed Creativity: Collaboration and Improvisation in Contemporary Music explores the different ways in which collaboration and improvisation enable and constrain creative processes.
Chapter 9. by Jean-Philippe Calvin & Mark Doffman
Contemporary Music in Action: performer-composer collaboration within the conservatoire. This chapter looks at collaborative work between composers and performers in an educational setting. The study showed how students found this sort of collaborative work to be potentially career-enhancing and creatively fulfilling. The study also found however that composer–performer roles were demarcated strongly enough to constrain the degree of collaboration and learning to satisfy all the participants. The chapter concludes with questions about the degree to which such programmes challenge the assumptions and roles of performers and composers. How do conservatoires both prepare students for the world of work and provide models that might challenge that world?

Chapter Four: Socialising Heritage / Socialising Legacy - How should heritage decisions be made?
UK: Policy Press, University of Bristol (ISBN: 978-1447331629)
USA: The University of Chicago Press Books (ISBN: 9781447331629)
Valuing Interdisciplinary Collaborative Research addresses this key challenge head-on. With a particular focus on research in the arts, humanities, and social sciences, contributors draw on nine contemporary case studies from fields as diverse as cultural anthropology and international development to explore the tensions that surround the evaluation and assessment of research both generally and in the context of more recent discussions of collaborative research.
